Chapter One:
I don't really know what brought me here to Dr. Susan Andrews office. I was never one to like going to some complete stranger and telling them my personal thoughts and feelings. That just wasn't me. But, for some reason, it felt like my only hope at this point. I was desperate; I mean, my marriage was falling apart, my kids were not needing me as much as they used to, and I felt completely useless. So, as I made my way slowly into the office, there was an unusually perky blonde haired woman at the front desk chewing gum, and then she looked up at me from whatever trashy magazine she was looking through, and then she acknowledged me.
"Yes?" she asked, looking annoyed. Hey, I didn't want to be here any more than she did. I would much rather be watching Oprah on the couch with my cute little ducky slippers, but, I had no choice.
"I am here to see Dr. Susan," I replied, trying to look calm.
"Great. Fill out these forms and then she will be out as soon as she is done with Crazy Charlie," she said, and then chuckled to herself.
As I was filling out these forms, it reminded me of the time Jeff and I were filling out forms for our youngest daughter Abby when she was starting school.
"Would you look at some of these questions? I mean, the child is only four years old," he had said.
"I know, but this is what they need these days, I guess," I replied, and then we had laughed about it. Oh, had I missed those days.
